There's an interesting story behind the repaint of this Sitting
Bull painting. On Wednesday this week, I got up and decided
that I was going to continue with the process of repainting
my old work and chose Sitting Bull. This painting was started
in 97, and sat upon my fender rhodes for many years, and I haven't
touched it since. I got all set up, and began to start on the
face, when I went to go get some music. My friend Adrian was
in town last week, and he brought me some music. I grabbed the
last album that was in my CD case, and went about painting.
The 4th song in to the CD (keep in mind that this was the first
time I had ever heard this song), which was an jazz album called
"Raining on the Moon" by William Parker, had some
lyrics that start out the song that go like this:
Geronimo, who's real name was "Goyathlay"
is now the President of the United States
His first act in office
is to remove "Columbus Day" from the calendar
He declares the birthday of Sitting Bull
who's name is "Tantanka Yotanka"
a national holiday
The White House is called the Red House
The White House is now called the Red House
I
took this as a sign. Given my odds of putting in an album where
Sitting Bull's name is mentioned is staggering. Lottery size
odds.
